About the Contractor

From the Job Site to the Home Front

My name is Carson, and I am a licensed General Contractor living in Charlotte, NC. After years of building, renovating, and inspecting homes, I’ve seen firsthand how the “standard” way of building isn’t always the “safest” way—especially for our aging loved ones.

I started Stay Safe At Home Guide because I realized that many caregivers are overwhelmed by the technical side of home safety. They know their parents need help, but they don’t know the difference between a decorative grab bar and one that will actually hold 250 lbs in a fall.

Why Trust a Contractor?

Most home safety advice comes from medical brochures. While medical advice is vital, it doesn’t always tell you how to find a stud in a bathroom wall or why a specific threshold ramp won’t work on your flooring type.

On this site, I combine my professional construction experience with a passion for helping seniors maintain their independence. My goal is to give you practical, “contractor-tested” advice that you can use to protect your parents today.

A Personal Mission

This isn’t just professional for me; it’s personal. I’ve navigated the complexities of aging in place within my own family. My elderly parents lived at home with my sister, where we managed everything from daily safety to long-term comfort. My mother passed away at 93, and my father is still living at 100. Helping to care for them at home taught us the real-world trial and error of which products actually work, how lighting changes a senior’s mood and safety, and how the right furniture can preserve dignity. I’m sharing what we learned so your family doesn’t have to guess.

Safety isn’t an upgrade; it’s the foundation.
